Compuserve, Incorporated is founded. It would eventually become a dial-in online service for customers, allowing them to use a "CB Simulator", games, look up information, order online, and do many of the basic functions of what is now called the World Wide Web. It charged hourly for usage, and cost different amounts for day and night usage, as well as high speed (9600 baud). Ultimately, it purchased its main competitor (The Source) in 1989 and was itself purchased by AOL in 1997.
